Prof. Katerina Kankova, M.D., Ph.D. has received her PhD in Masaryk University during the period of 1997 - 2001. After several years of post-doctoral positions in UK she is currently working as full professor and principal investigator at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. She has established research team of young scientists focusing on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms responsible for metabolic abnormalities associated with gluco- and lipotoxicity in diabetes mellitus. Based on this research and fellowship training she has received several awards and honors, such as Best paper award of the Czech Diabetes Society 2007, 2008 and 2009 and she was a Laureate of the “Women in Science fellowship” from L’Oréal/UNESCO/Czech Academy of Sciences in 2006. She is regularly serving as an expert reviewer for journals like Diabetologia, Diab. Res. Clin. Pract., J. Diabetes Complicat. etc. She is a member of Eur. Association for Study of Diabetes, Biochemical Society and several other national societies.
