Biography
Dr. Kolitha Harischandra Sellahewa MBBS.MD.FCCP.FRACP (Hon.) after a stint of teaching as the Associate Professor Medicine at Melaka Manipal Medical College Malaysia has just returned to Sri Lanka to continue in teaching and research. Having graduated from the University of Colombo Sri Lanka, and obtained the MD from the Post Graduate Institute Medicine University Colombo, he worked in England to complete post-doctoral overseas training in internal medicine. After retiring from public service as Senior Consultant Physician from the premier teaching hospital in Sri Lanka, the National Hospital of Sri Lanka he took up full time teaching assignment in Malaysia. He is essentially a clinician using clinical diagnostic skills on patient management. Profound clinical experience developed over years of practice in different provinces in Sri Lanka and exposure to wide variety of clinical problems, and a strong clinical research interest holds in good stead. Much sort presenter, made innumerable presentations in national and international scientific fora. He has profound experience and major interest in clinical aspects of dengue and snakebite, and pioneered research in these areas such as the utilization of Immunomodulating effects of fresh frozen plasma for snakebite and dengue. Research won him many awards, E.M.wijerama award 1992, 1993; S.E.Senevirathne award 1989, 2007; K. Rajasuriya award 1995. Received and delivered the most prestigious oration for research, SLMA oration in 1996 and P.B.Fernando memorial oration 2009.Past President Ceylon College of Physicians, Menopause Society Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Society of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine and Chairman snakebite expert committee SLMA. He is a past member of the editorial board of the Ceylon Medical Journal. He is currently the envenomation consultant for Anti Venom Research International California USA.
