Biography
Mário is internationally recognized for his contributions to biomaterials science, particularly in cell-biomaterial interactions. Natural and bioartificial matrices have been extensively studied by his group, with the purpose of delivering cells and proteins, e.g. in a context of repair/regeneration of tissues. He's a Fellow of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering. In 2001 he received the George Winter Award of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB)
