Olga Mykhaylyk
Biography
Olga Mykhailyk earned a First Class Honours Master Sc in Chemistry from Lomonosov Moscow University in 1976 and completed her PhD in Chemical Kinetics and Catalysis from the same University at the chair of the Nobel Prize Laureate Nikolai Semenov in 1981. During her further activities in the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences she focused on the synthesis and characterization of iron based nanomaterials for biomedical application, study their biodistribution and biodegradation in animals, magnetic properties of iron storage proteins, disturbances of iron metabolism in patients with iron overload, in experimental models and in patients with glial brain tumours. She joined Christian Plank’s group in year 2005. Currently her research includes nanoparticles synthesis and characterization for assembling with viral and non-viral vectors for nucleic acids delivery, magnetic cell labelling for cell therapy and tissue engineering and biophysical characterization of the particle/complexes-cell interactions.
