Philippe Thonart is, in a way, a pre-incarnation of the recent grouping between the University of Liège (ULg) and the former University Faculty of Agronomic Sciences of Gembloux (FUSAGx), today Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - University Of Liège. Since 1989, the ULg offers him the direction of the Microbial Technology Department. At the time, this chemical engineer of agricultural industries, graduated from the FUSAGx, already has a long experience in industrial microbiology and enzymology. From 1976 to 1989, he gradually specialized the FUSAGx ââBioindustries Unit in the development of fermentation tanks (yeasts, bacteria, lactic germs, etc.). He had also developed hundreds of micro-organism cultures for the industrial world. But Philippe Thonart can not bring himself to leave the City of Cutlers. He accepted the position of director of the Walloon Center for Industrial Biology (CWBI), based at Sart Tilman.
His area of expertise is industrial microbiology and enzymology.
