Reyns Geert E present working as Team Leader/Project Leader at ThromboGenics. Geert Reyns holds a Master of Biology and received his PhD degree on the topic ‘Deiodination and sulfation as a tool of regulating intracellular thyroid hormone availability’ at the Biology department of the KULeuven under supervison of Prof. Darras in 2003. This research contributed to a project financed by the European Community, ‘Euthyroid’. The aim of this research program was to determine the molecular causes of neurodevelopmental deficits of preterm infants and to improve therapeutic treatments. After his PhD, he started working at the ‘Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) in the ‘Center of Molecular and Cardiovascular Biology’ in Leuven under supervision of Prof. Carmeliet and Prof. Collen. He coordinated the preclinical evaluation of the therapeutic potential of pro-angiogenic compounds. This research project was a cooperation between Thromb-X (now ThromboGenics), VIB, Roche and other academic and industrial partners. In 2007, he joined ThromboGenics as team leader of the in vivo pharmacology department and was responsible for validating the in vivo pharmacology and the therapeutic utility of new compounds for cardiovascular diseases, oncology and currently, ophthalmic research programs.
Reyns Geert E research interests focused on Philosophy, Biology, Diabetic retinopathy, Rodent models, Biochemical pathways and Personalized therapy.
