Dr. Syed Haqqie, an immigrant from Pakistan and a devout Muslim who rose to the highest ranks as a teacher and kidney disease specialist at Albany Medical Center and whose military service and tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves were honored at the White House, died Friday morning of an apparent heart attack. He was 71.He was stricken while driving at 4:45 a.m. with his wife, Azra, to Albany International Airport for a flight to Oklahoma City to visit their son, Naseem.
