Pyoderma gangrenosum is a skin disorder reflection of internal disorders like, Inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn disease), Rheumatoid arthritis, Myeloid blood dyscrasias, Chronic active hepatitis., Wegener granulomatosis, PAPA syndrome, Miscellaneous less common associations.
It is more common in people of age above 50 years, which is seen in both male and females. It is seen as a big ulcer blown out, which is painful.
It is quite sudden, it has large ulcer appearance full of puss, red and border will be of purple colour. Necrotic tissue is removed, before the condition gets serious, but in case where the bacterial growth begins, antibiotics are given first to decrease the infection.The following drugs are given to treat pyoderma gangrenosum, topical steroid,, Potent topical steroid creams, Tacrolimus ointment, Intralesional steroid injections, Special dressings, Oral anti-inflammatory antibiotics such as minocycline
In chronic condtions the following drugs are more prescribed: Potassium iodide solution, Oral corticosteroids, Dapsone, Ciclosporin, Methotrexate, Cyclophosphamide, Mycophenolate mofetil, Intravenous immunoglobulins and plasmapheresis, Anti TNFa inibitor: infliximab, adalimumab (off-label)
