    Occupational stress has been a long-standing concern of the health care industry. Studies indicate that health care workers have higher rates of substance abuse and suicide than other professions and elevated rates of depression and anxiety linked to job stress. In addition to psychological distress, other outcomes of job stress include burnout, absenteeism, employee intent to leave, reduced patient satisfaction, and diagnosis and treatment errors.

    Beliefs about whether the institution provides high quality care may influence the perceived stress of job pressures and workload because higher quality care maybe reflected in greater support and availability of resources. Statewide active surveillance for invasive (pneumococcal) disease began in 2002, expanded from the metropolitan area, where active surveillance was ongoing since 1995. In 2013, 542(10.1 per 100,000) cases of invasive pneumococcal disease were reported. By age group, annual incidence rates per 100,000 were 12.6 cases among children aged 0-4 years, 2.2 cases among children and adults aged 5-39 years, 10.4 cases among adults 40-64 years, and 34.9 cases among adults aged 65 years and older.
