Vaginal dryness may be a problem for women at any age. Most cases are observed in women after menopause. It is caused mainly due to reduced estrogen levels as estrogen hormone keeps vaginal tissue healthy maintaining vaginal lubrication, tissue elasticity. Hygienic practices also influences vagginal dryness.
Vaginal dryness can be treated based on the cause of it. Estrogen therapies are used to treat the disease. In addition to estrogen based therapies, lubricants and moisturisers are being used in some cases.
Research on vaginal dryness is carried on to investigate the causes, medications, therapies in order to treat/prevent the disease. Clinical trials are being conducted for vaginal dryness and improving medications and therapies.
Experts estimate that 40-60 percent of the women would be affecting to vaginal dryness at some point during menopausal transition.
