Antiretrovirals on Prevalence Trends of HIV Resistance

The efficacy of antiretroviral (ARV) therapy has significantly improved the survival and quality of life of HIV infected subjects. The development of simplified treatment guidelines and new drugs with higher efficacy, better tolerability and fewer adverse effects has improved treatment compliance. In this context, the emergence of treatment resistance is the greatest challenge to achieve maximum effectiveness in countries with access to antiretroviral therapy. HIV drug resistance is associated with virological failure and clinical HIV progression, limiting subsequent therapy options.
