Isoflavones are polyphenolic compounds found in many plant families, but especially in some members of the Fabaceae family. It is reported in several agriculturally important legumes such as soy, peanut, green peas, chick peas and alfalfa. Soy (Glycine max) beans are exceptionally rich in isoflavones, with an average content of 1-2 mg/gram and constitute the major source for dietary isoflavones.
