Impact of the Post-Thoracotomy Pain Syndrome

Chronic pain can emerge after surgery and is known as persistent post-surgical pain. Post-thoracotomy pain syndrome (PTPS) is defined as pain that recurs or persists along a thoracotomy scar at least two months after the surgical procedure. This condition is relatively common and the prevalence of PTPS has been reported to be up to 80%.
