Nutrition is the science that interprets the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food (e.g. phytonutrients, anthocyanins, tannins, etc.) in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and disease of an organism. It includes food intake, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism and excretion. A poor diet can cause the wasting of kwashiorkor in acute cases, and the stunting of marasmus in chronic cases of malnutrition.
Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year. Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth. Reduce food waste by improving product development, storage, shopping/ordering, marketing, labeling, and cooking methods.
