Optic neuritis is an inflammation of the optic nerve, which includes the bundle of nerve fibers which transmits visual information from your eye to your brain. Temporary vision and pain are most common symptoms of optic neuritis. Optic neuritis was observed in 53.3% of patients, mostly with unilateral disease. Recurrent optic neuritis was occurred before myelitis in 18.3%. Mortality rates were significantly high among Afro Brazilian patients 58.3%.
