The first exposure allows the body to create antibodies and memory lymphocyte cells for the antigen. The drugs often contain many different substances, including dyes, which could cause allergic reactions.
If symptoms are severe, seek medical help immediately. A serious anaphylactic reaction requires immediate medical attention because the result can be fatal. In most cases of adverse reactions, physician can prescribe an alternative medication. For serious reactions, may provide antihistamines, corticosteroids or epinephrine.
