Thyroid Cancer is a disease that you get when unusual cells start to develop in thyroid organ. It forms like a butterfly and is situated in the front of your neck. It makes hormones that controls & becomes active with the body work regularly.
Symptoms are swelling neck, breathing difficulty, steady wheezing & hacking voice. Treatment includes Surgery to remove the part of the thyroid gland, radioactive iodine to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue. TSH suppression therapy prevents any remaining cancer cells.
Ongoing Research is being done at Thyroid Cancer Centers. The Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer. 6,300 Canadians diagnosed 1,450 men & 4,800 women. Actual mortality is 185 Canadians, 65 men & 120 women died from thyroid cancer.
