Ectopic pregnancy is the result of a flaw in human reproductive physiology that allows the conceptus to implant and mature outside the endometrial cavity, which ultimately ends in the death of the fetus. Without timely diagnosis and treatment, ectopic pregnancy can become a life-threatening situation.
Severe abdominal or pelvic pain accompanied by vaginal bleeding
Extreme lightheadedness or fainting
Ectopic pregnancy is usually treated with laparoscopic surgery.
If the ectopic pregnancy is causing heavy bleeding or the fallopian tube has ruptured, you might need emergency surgery through an abdominal incision (laparotomy).
