Scoliosis is the abnormal twisting and curvature of the spine.It is usually first noticed by a change in appearance of the back. Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine that is found in children and adolescents. In most cases, scoliosis is painless. However, it can become gradually more severe if left untreated, resulting in chronic back pain. Severe cases can cause deformities, impair development and life-threatening. The cause of most cases of scoliosis cases is idiopathic.
Types of scoliosis:
Nonstructural scoliosis: Also known as functional scoliosis, this involves a spine that is structurally normal yet appears curved. This is a Temporary bend that changes, and is brought about by a hidden condition, for example, distinction in leg length, muscle fits or provocative and inflammatory conditions such as appendicitis. Structural scoliosis: is a fixed curve treated individually according to its cause. In some cases Structural scoliosis causes disease such as the inherited connective tissue disorder known as Marfan’s syndrome. In neuromuscular diseases, injury, infection, tumors, metabolic diseases, rheumatic diseases curve occurs on its own.
The disease shows a significant statistical significance. Most cases of idiopathic scoliosis occur between age 10 and the time a child is fully grown.The Population Estimated Used was 1,298,847,624 and the Extrapolated Prevalence is 3,896,543.
