Poison can be defined as a substance that causes some undesirable effects in human systems when administered in abnormal amount. Poisons can be of biological origin as well as chemical substances. The poisoning is classified as acute poisoning and chronic poisoning. Acute poisoning occurs by the exposure of a poison for a short span of time whereas chronic poisoning results because of the continuous or prolonged exposure. Major classes of poisons are pesticides, snake venom, methanol, poisonous gases such as methanol etc. A distinction between toxins and poisons are not yet possible even scientists are using the term interchangeably.
