Angelo Santino was born in Lecce, Italy) on August 1963. In 1988 he graduated in Biological Science at the University of Lecce, defending a thesis on yeast genetics. In 1990-1991, he was fellow at the Istituto Biosintesi Vegetali, CNR, Milan, and in 1992 at the Institute of Natural Resources, Chatam Maritime, UK. In 1994, he had a temporary position at the Institute of Research on Agro-alimentary Biotechnology, CNR, Lecce. Since 1997 Angelo Santino has obtained a full position as scientist at the same institute (renamed as Institute of Science of Food Production, Unit of Lecce, since 2002).
Main research activities of Angelo Santino deal with plant molecular biology, metabolic engineering, biochemistry and cell biology. His scientific activity has been focused on the following main topics: • hormones signalling in plant response to (a)biotic stresses • Lipid droplets and lipids storage in plant cell • Induction and purification of recombinant proteins; proteins chips • Biological activity of phytochemicals; novel carriers for their stabilisation and up-take improvement.
