I enjoy using my broad sales and marketing experience and perspective as an integral part of creating real value from emerging technologies as we navigate this tumultuous period of nanotech discoveries. Scientists, Educators and Students are heroes to me for doing what they love with fervor. Einstein said, “Nothing happens until something moves.\" My corollary to that is, “Nothing happens until someone sells something”. The rapidity of change in technology today, marked by the proliferation of technical papers and conferences has probably created a shortage in skilled sales and marketing types and entrepreneurial types as shown by the downturn of VC funding. Crowd sourcing is great for bootstrapping, but what happens after that? It still takes skilled management with fiscal spines of steel to plot a five year course to profitability. Great ideas have languished for lack of perspective, the ability to translate science into a product and in a timely fashion. You may remember the story about the blind men experiencing the elephant and each having a different experience, but if they work together the story has a different better ending – they can “see” the elephant. I enjoy doing the work scientists don’t want or have the time to do and in that way do my part helping to “enable technology” and reach goals.
