Powell received his Ph. D. in Biochemistry from The University of California at Davis with postdoctoral training at The National Cancer Institute in Frederick Cancer and The University of Tokyo Medical Institute. He spearheaded and managed a bioproduction and bioanalysis research services capability for the DoD, and received federal recognition for helping to transition candidate biodefense vaccine products into advanced development. He is an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University where he teaches a medical microbiology course on bacterial pathogens, and has certificates in Regulatory Compliance and Project Management. Founder and President of Cernomics Solutions, he now provides consultation services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biodefense clients. Dr. Powell has more than 47 scientific publications, two patents, and serves journal peer review, biological standards development, and other aid to knowledge discovery and medical product development.
