Evalina Burger is the Senior Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon and Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopedics. She was trained in South Africa and recruited to the University of Colorado in 2006 from Louisiana State University. She has received many awards throughout her career. The most prestigious are 1.The G. F. Dommisse Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement and Research (1993) 2. SAOA, ABC Traveling Fellow (Top 6 Orthopedic Surgeons of the English-speaking world are invited to travel the world) (2000) 3. University of Colorado Hospital, Partners in Care Award (2009) 4. Cambridge 2010 Edition of Who’s Who Executives and Professionals (2010) 5. IMAST, Thomas Whitecloud Award for the Best Basic Science Paper (2010) NASS, Best Poster Award “Correlation of Vertebral Strength Topography with Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography Structure” (2010). She is one of two University of Colorado School of Medicine ELAM (Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine) fellows for 2011/2012 and has contributed largely to the restructuring of the Orthopaedic Department by creating a transparency dashboard and improving their profitability as the Chair of the Finance Committee. She is a member many organizations like American Medical Association, Scoliosis Research Society, 20th Century Orthopedic Association, American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, Society of Lateral Access Surgery.
