Frank K. Tittel is the Josephine S. Abercrombie Professor of Electrical Computer Engineering at Rice University, where he also holds a joint faculty appointment in the Department of Bioengineering. He obtained his bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees in physics from the University of Oxford in 1955 and 1959, respectively. From 1959 to 1967, he was a Research Physicist with General Electric Research and Development Center, Schenectady, New York. Since 1967, he has been on the faculty at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Current research interests include various aspects of quantum electronics, in particular laser spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, and laser applications in environmental monitoring, industrial process control, and medicine. Dr. Tittel is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society.
