Dr. Jaysankar DE completed his Ph.D. from Goa University and National Institute of Oceanography, India in 2005. He is the Dean, Dept. of Biotechnology, UNESCO Chair in Life Sciences International PostgraduateEducational Center (Sep. 2012 to till Date), Armenia. Before that he has served as Senior Scientist. Center for Ecological Noosphere Studies, National Academy of Sciences,Armenia,Scientist (Scientific advisor). Vanevan University (Institute), Ministry of Education and Science, Armenia, Scientist (Assistant Professor),Vanevan University, Postdoctoral Researcher at Swedish Institute.research training was in marine science with emphasis on environmental microbiology and ecology of mercury-resistant bacteria (MRB), and exploring their potential application in bioremediation of toxic heavy metals and xenobiotics. Subsequently his research has covered many aspects of aquatic and subsurface ecosystems that have been concerned mainly with bacterial processes controlling the transformation of toxic chemicals and understanding the effect of changing climate variability on microbial community. Some of his completed research projects include study of spatio-temporal variation of heavy metals in a Pacific inlet affected by intensive aquaculture, role of iron minerals in Uranium biogeochemistry, effect of solar radiation and nitrate on dissolved organic matter and bacterial community composition of freshwater lake, role of freshwater macrophytes in heavy metal accumulation and phytoremidiation, etc. Besides, he worked in several environmental impact assessment project. He has awarded with many fellowships like SI,JSPS,UGC-DAAD, CSIR etc also the editor in chief of Environment and pollution and advisory board of many research organizations with more than 40 publication including 3 books.
Environmental microbiology, microbial biotechnology, cell hydration in realization of biological effects of weak chemical and physical signals, biological effect of radiation on living organisms,biogeochemistry of nutrients and heavy metals, microbial food chain, microbiology of extreme environments, environmental impact assessment, plant-microbe interaction, identification of emerging environmental contaminant issues and their effect from ecological perspectives, effectof changing climate variability on microbes, bioremediation of toxic chemicals, microbial contamination of food and quality control.
