Jean-Paul Lellouche

Professor in Department of Chemistry
Nanomaterials Research Center
Institute of Nanotechnology & Advanced Materials
Bar-Ilan University

Jean-Paul Lellouche earned his Ph.D. degree in 1981 (multi-step syntheses of 14C-/3H-labeled organic molecules, University Claude Bernard/La Doua, Lyon, France). In 1997, he moved to the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Beer-Sheva, Israel) as an Associate Professor in Organic Chemistry. Then, he joined the Department of Chemistry/Institute of Nanotechnology & Advanced Materials (BINA) at Bar-Ilan University since October 2000 as a Full Professor in Organic Chemistry/Nano(bio)technology (July 2008).His current R&D activity includes R&D developments at the cutting-edge Materials Science level interfacing with nano(bio)technology (nanofabrication methodologies& nanomaterial engineering). He has authored 107 peer-reviewed papers, 14 patents and 3 book chapters & attracted more than US$ 6,581,000 in external grant funding.

His main research interests relate to the following scientific fields, i.e., conductive polymers (polypyrrole/polycarbazole polymers), scratch-resistant/super-hydrophobic sol-gel & polymeric surfaces/matrices, chemically modified magnetic & non-magnetic polymeric nanoparticles/nanorodsfor DNA sensing, MRI & drug/gene silencing (siRNA technology), antibacterial nanomaterials and coatings, UV-photoreactive nano(micro)particles for surface nano(micro)structurationof polymeric coatings, & metal catalyst particles (renewable energies/fuel cell technology).
