Jon D. Stewart
University of Florida
Jon Stewart received his PhD in chemistry from Cornell University in 1991 under the direction of Professor Bruce Ganem. He was a Helen Hay Whitney Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow from 1991 – 1994 in the laboratory of Professor Stephen J. Benkovic at Penn State University. In 1994, he began as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Florida. This was followed by promotion to Associate (2000) and Full Professor (2006). His research focused on biocatalysis, particularly using redox enzymes such as dehydrogenases, Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases and alkene reductases. He has been an Editor of the Journal of Molecular Catalysis B: Enzymatic since 2003 and reviews numerous journal articles and research proposals. He has also chaired and organized numerous conferences including the Gordon Research Conference on Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering.
