Graduated in Geology at the University of São Paulo (1983), Master in Oceanography (Physical Oceanography), University of São Paulo (1987) and Ph.D. in Oceanography (Biological Oceanography), University of São Paulo (1992). He is currently Full Professor at the University of Sao Paulo. Member of Editorial Board of Journal of Coastal Research and member of the body of referees of several journals, including Geo-Marine Letters and The Holocene. Member of the Committee of Geosciences at the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). He has experience in the field of Oceanography, with emphasis on Marine Sedimentology, mainly in the following areas: sedimentation, stratigraphy, coastal zone, continental shelf and continental margin. Project leader of the IGCP526 (Risks, Resources, Record of the Past in the Continental Shelves). More than 50 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, and book chapters. Currently holds the position of Director of the Oceanographic Institute of the University of Sao Paulo.
