Dr. Mihail Lucian graduated from Physics Faculty of the University of Bucharest in the Optics and Spectroscopy field in 1968 and obtained PhD in Physics at the same faculty in 1974. The PhD thesis content was obtained mainly wihin an US - Romania cooperation programme and it is a contribution to the optogalvanic spectroscopy field. In 1975, he founded the Laser Spectroscopy Group, that covered until today, the following topics: tunable lasers, basic laser spectroscopy of complex molecules, biomolecular spectroscopy, spectroscopy applications in environment pollution, medicine and pharmacology, laser optofluidics. Currently he is a senior research scientist at the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics, Bucharest and professor, head of PhD at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Bucharest in the Optics Laser and Spectroscopy field.

His research interest focuses on tunable dye lasers, tunable semiconductor lasers, tunable solid state lasers, chaotic emission of laser systems, nitrogen pulsed lasers and ns, ps, fs low power, high power and extremly high power pulsed lasers. Spectroscopy of complex molecules: pollutants, medicines etc. Optofluidics: laser spectroscopy of micro and nanodroplets. Lasers use in multiple drug resistance acquired by bacteria and cancer tumours. Lasers applications in medicine and biology. Lasers applications in environment monitoring and protection. Lasers in life sciences. Lasers in food sciences and Lasers in materials processing.
