Ranjit Pati is currently a faculty member at the Physics department of Michigan Technological University. He earned his doctorate in theoretical condensed matter physics from the University at Albany, SUNY in 1998. After several years of postdoctoral works at University of New Mexico and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he joined the physics department at Michigan Technological University as an assistant professor in 2004; he was promoted to associate professor in 2008 and subsequently to the position of a Professor in 2013. He is the recipient of the career award from the US National Science Foundation. His research focus has been to use quantum mechanical approach to understand nanoscale processes. He is well known for many fundamental contributions in molecular electronics, particularly for his contribution toward molecular spin valve. He has published more than thirty research papers in peer reviewed journals and has given invited talks at many national and international forums. He has also served in the editorial board of two open access journals.
