Biography

Vladimir Chigrinov Graduated From Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Moscow Electronics Institute, the Diploma of Engineer-Mathematician in 1973. He was Head of Division, "Fine Chemistry for Electronics" in Organic Intermediates and Dyes Institute, Scientific-Research Center of Russia (1988-1996) and expert in Flat Panel Technology in Russia, recoginzed by World Technology Evaluation Centre, 1994; He has 4 books, 14 reviews and book chapters, 209 refereed papers, 485 Conference presentations and 75 patents in the field of liquid crystals since 1974. He has been Visiting Associate Professor in EEE Dept, HKUST, Hong Kong since 1.06.99 and Associate Professor in EEE Department, HKUST, Hong Kong since 1.07.02. He is Senior Member of the Society for Information Display (SID) since 10.10.04 and Associate Editor of J. of SID since 06.2005. He is SID fellow since 02.08. He is Professor in ECE Dept, HKUST, Hong Kong since 1.07.08. The paper of M.Schadt, K.Schmett, V.Kozenkov, V.Chigrinov, Surface-induced parallel alignment of liquid crystals by linearly polymerized photopolymers, Jap. J.Appl. Phys. P.I., Vol.31, pp. 2155-2164 (1992) is number 4 among the most heavily-cited and has been influential papers published in JJAP since the first volume (1962) and has been selected from the various fields of applied physics by the JJAP Editorial Board. HKUST FYP team was awarded by Varitronix (2009, 2010, and 2012) in Displays. He was given the Research Excellence Award of SENG, HKUST that recognizes the efforts of an outstanding faculty member with a proven record of research excellence in May 2012. He had been Chair of LC Photonics Conferences in Hong Kong, 2010, 2012.
