Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is used as HIV medicines to treat HIV infection. People on Antiretroviral therapy take a combination of HIV medicines (called an HIV regimen) every day. ART is recommended for everyone who has HIV. ART can’t cure HIV, but HIV medications help individual with HIV live longer, improved lives. ART also decreases the risk of HIV transmission. Probable risks of ART include unwanted side effects from HIV treatments and drug interactions between HIV medicines and other medicines a person is taking.
