Approaches to control parasitic diseases, STD and hiv

The control of parasitic diseases of humans has been started since the aetiology and natural history of the infections was recognized and the deleterious effects on human health and well-being respected by policy makers, medical practitioners and public health specialists. However, while some parasitic infections such as malaria have proved difficult to control, as defined by a continued reduction in incidence, others, particularly helminth infections can be effectively controlled. The different approaches to control from diagnosis, to treatment and cure of the clinically sick patient, to control the transmission within the community by pre-emptive chemotherapy and vector control are outlined.

Firstly, a number of newer serology-based assays that are highly specific and sensitive have arose, such as the Falcon assay screening test ELISA (FAST-ELISA) , Dot-ELISA , rapid antigen detection system (RDTS) , and luciferase immunoprecipitation system (LIPS) . Secondly, molecular-based methods such as loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) , real-time polymerase chain reaction , and Luminex  have shown a high possible for use in parasite analysis with increased specificity and sensitivity. Thirdly, proteomic technology has also been introduced for the detection of biomarkers using tissues or biological fluids from the infected host.
