Bioreactors and Fermentation

A bioreactor is a device or system that supports a biologically active environment.  It may act as a vessel in which a  chemical process is carried out  involving  organisms or biochemically active substances derived from such organisms. The process can either be aerobic or anaerobic. A bioreactor may also act as a device or system to grow cells or tissues . These devices are being developed for use in tissue engineering or biochemical engineering. Fermentation is a metabolic process involved in the conversion of sugar  to acids, gases, or alcohol. It is also involved in the bulk growth of microorganisms on a growth medium, with the goal of producing a specific chemical product.
