Causes and Symptoms of Infections

Infections can be caused by bacteria, virus, fungi and parasites through direct contact, indirect contact, insect bites and food contamination. Each infectious disease has its own specific signs and symptoms. General signs and symptoms common to a number of infectious diseases include fever, diarrhoea, fatigue and muscle aches.

Infections are caused by the microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. Poor sanitation and inadequate personal hygiene causes various infectious diseases. Infections can be transmitted through direct contact (person to person, animal to person and mother to child) and indirect contact (insects and contamination). Infections can the transmitted through air, water, food, insects like mosquitoes, ticks and blood.  Symptoms may vary from one infection to other but most common symptoms observed in all types of infectious diseases are fever, diarrhoea, fatigue and muscle aches.
