Childhood Obesity- Treatment and Prevention

Obese children have health problems that used to be seen only in adults. When these problems begin in childhood, they commonly become worse in adulthood. A child who is overweight or obese is also more likely to have problems such as low self-esteem, Poor grades in school, desolation. The prevalence of morbid obesity has risen sharply in recent years, even among pediatric patients.

Childhood Obesity prevention strategies and policies have been proposed to counter obesity, and some of those proposed policies focus on altering the food system to control food consumption habits and thus obesity and nutrition by changing the choices of available to consumers or by changing the incentives to choose. To reverse the obesity epidemic, places and practices take to support healthy eating & active living. The recommended strategies to prevent obesity are early care and research strategies, School health guidelines to promote healthy eating, physical activity and school-based childhood obese prevention strategies school lunch programs, after-school programs.

Childhood obesity has doubled in children in the past 30 years. The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States were obesity increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. In 2012, more than one-third of children and adolescents were obesity. Childhood obesity is strongly associated with risk factors for cardiovascular disorders, type 2 diabetes, orthopedic problems, mental disease, underachievement in school and lower self-esteem.
