Healthy Aging and Preventive health

Health maintenance and preventive measures contribute to the maintenance of independent function and quality of life in the elderly individual. As with younger adults, optimization of management of chronic and acute disease processes helps to maintain optimal health in elderly patients.

Healthy aging is the development and maintenance of optimal mental, social and physical well-being and function in older adults. This is most likely to be achieved when communities are safe, promote health and well-being, and use health services and community programs to prevent or minimize disease.

Preventive health is the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health. Medical research has come a long way, and as a result, people live much longer than they used to.
