Infectious Pathogens

Infectious diseases are caused by microbes such as viruses, bacteria, fungi or parasites and can spread between individuals. Pathogens cause disease either by disturbing the body’s normal processes and/or stimulating the immune system to produce a defensive response, resulting in high fever, inflammation and other symptoms. Depending on the organism causing the infection, signs and symptoms vary but often include fever and fatigue. Mild infections may react to rest and home remedies, while some life-threatening infections may require hospitalization.
