Pain Management Nursing

Pain management is a vital element of quality patient care. Pain is the primary symptom that leads people to seek healthcare. Pain imposes its presence, requiring that one attend to that. For those who experience it, pain is not an objective, quantifiable entity, as it might appear in the scientific literature. Rather, pain has the capability to enter the very fabric of the body and to destroy the familiar, taken-for-granted being in the world. Although several disciplines are involved in pain management, nurses play a pivotal role in assessment, monitoring, interpretation, intervention and analysis of pain. However, research studies document inadequate and inappropriate care of individuals experiencing pain. Nurses that specialize in pain management facilitate millions of patient’s live active and fulfilling lives.
