Vaginal Yeast Infection

A vaginal yeast infection is a common fungal infection which is overgrowth by candida which is naturally occurring yeast. Yeast are normally found in woman’s vagina in small numbers but sometimes they are multiply and change the normal balance of bacterial growth. When the fungi begin to grow in excess, they may develop into candidiasis. These are the most likely fungi to cause yeast infections as well as infections in other moist areas of the body such as the mouth or thrush, skin folds and beneath the finger nails.

Nearly 75% of all adult women have had at least one "yeast infection" in their lifetime. On rare occasions, men may also get genital candidiasis. VVC occurs more frequently and more severely in people with weakened immune systems.
