Biography

Dr Aamer Ikram graduated from Army Medical College in 1987. He did Diploma in Pathology (1990), qualified MCPS (Clinical Pathology) in 1991, and Fellowship (Clinical Microbiology) in 1998. Later, he completed Diploma in Occupational Health, Safety & Environment followed by Diploma in Disaster Management. He was selected for On Job Training (United Kingdom) in infection control during 2005. He excelled in the fields of biosafety, biosecurity, dual-use safety and infection control as he completed a wide range of courses from renowned universities like Harvard, Oxford, South Florida, Iowa, Chester, Bradford, etc, and workshops from UN, WHO, CDC, and ABSA besides multiple online opportunities. In 2009, he was selected by Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases for one year certificate course at University of Iowa. He has also completed Dual-use Biosecurity course from Bradford University. He is presently completing his PhD in molecular biology. He holds multiple academic distinctions and honors. He has the credit of being the first Pakistani to be a Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) by American Biological Safety Association. He is member of National Task Force on Biosafety, and Convener Microbiology (Pakistan Medical & Research Council). He contributed immensely towards formulation of national BTWC related legislation and drafted national guidelines for Code of Conduct for life scientists. He has represented Pakistan multiple times at BWC United Nations, Geneva; and contributed a chapter in BWC book. He is Chief Editor of Infectious Diseases Journal Pakistan, and among the editorial board of Microbiology Research, African Journal of Microbiology & Antimicrobials, and Pakistan Journal of Pathology. He has more than hundred national and international publications. He is actively engaged in post-graduate academics and continuing medical education affairs. He has dedicatedly worked for raising awareness about biosafety and biosecurity in the country. He is among the founder members of Pakistan Biological Safety Association. He has organized a large number of biosafety workshops and courses and contributed towards curriculum development. He holds the ultimate distinction to be selected for International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA) Biosafety Heroes Award last year. This year he has been selected as part of international faculty in infectious diseases by Harvard University\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\s Global Health Delivery Program.
