Andreana Assimopoulou is Assistant Professor of “Applied Organic Chemistry- Natural Products” at Chemical Engineering Department, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She received her Diploma of Chemical Engineer from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, MSc in “Management of Productive Systems” from the Industrial Management Division, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and PhD from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After a two years post Doctoral Fellowship granted by the States Scholarships Foundation she was elected Lecturer of the Chemical Engineering Department, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She is author of 45 scientific publications that have gained more than 1400 citations (h-factor 18). She has developed a lot of collaborations with industries, R&D companies, institutes, individual researchers and universities. Her research interests focus on Chemistry and Technological Exploitation of Natural Products and bioactive constituents, Discovery of active ingredients from natural products, Drug Delivery Systems, Instrumental Analysis, Pharmaceutical Technology.

Research Interest

A.N. Assimopoulou’s research has been largely focused on three pillars: Chemistry, Biology and Technology of secondary metabolites, especially quinones and terpenes. She has great experience on chemistry (isolation, identification, purification, discovery of natural bioactive ingredients for medicines), technology (drug delivery systems, development of pharmaceutical formulations) and biology of naphthoquinones such as alkannins/shikonins and triterpenes and she possesses the know-how for the industrial production of medicines with these as active ingredients.
