Biography

Dr. Antonio Andrés graduated from Complutensis University of Madrid (Spain) with a BSc degree in Biology. He earned in 1981 his Ph.D. in Biochemistry based on metabolic regulation studies at Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain). The Fullbright Commission funded post-doctoral training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Pathology N.Y. (USA) working on coated vesicles proteins and function. He moved in 1984 to the Department of Molecular Biology at the Centre of Molecular Biology “Severo Ochoa” in Madrid, where he started to study the molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance with ageing. As Associate Professor he moved in 1992 to the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Ciudad Real, Spain) where is currently Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and member of the Regional Center for Biomedical Research. He has published over 60 original research papers, reviews and book chapters. He has been teaching experience of more than 25 years and served as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in the area of Endocrinology and Molecular and Cellular Biology of Lipids.   

Research Interest

Crosstalk between insulin and leptin signaling on glucose and lipid metabolism in obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Effects of hypothalamic adipokines administration on glucose and lipid metabolism in peripheral tissues.
