Biography

Antonios Gasteratos is an Associate Professor at the Department of Production and Management, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. He teaches the courses of “Robotics”, “Automatic Control Systems”, “Measurements Technology” and “Electronics”. He holds a B.Eng. and a Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, DUTH, Greece. During 1999-2000 he was a visiting researcher at the Laboratory of Integrated Advanced Robotics (LIRA-Lab), DIST, University of Genoa, Italy, with a TMR grant from VIRGO and SMART networks. He has served as a reviewer to numerous Scientific Journals and International Conferences. His research interests are mainly in mechatronics and in robot vision. He has published more than 150 papers in books, journals and conferences. He is a member of the IEEE, IAPR, ECAI and the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE). Prof. Gasteratos is a member of EURON, eu-Cognition and I*Proms networks.

Research Interest

Robotics, with emphasis on artificial vision, vestibular and hearing systems and their integration. Intelligent and autonomous robots (humanoid, walking, underwater, flying, etc). Autonomous behaviours (navigation, grasping, etc). Multi-sensor data fusion with application to robotics and automation. Deep learning architectures with application to robot cognition. Safety in mechatronics systems. Design and implementation of digital VLSI and FPGA systems. Digital image processing, with emphasis on non-linear and fuzzy image processing. Computer architectures and microprocessors. Their application on digital image processing, machine vision and pattern recognition
