Christa Arnold is a Assistant Professor in Communication Studies in University of North Florida. Christa Arnold’s current research interests fall into the health and medical communication field as well as sub areas such as listening, deception detection, and conflict management. Her most recent area of research interest involves enhancing the physician-patient relationship, particularly during the medical interview phases. She has training and experience in both qualitative and quantitative methodology with an equal amount of experience in both areas. The focus of her research is in the area of physician-patient communication and she is currently working on two funded grant projects focusing on the physician-patient relationship. Her research is applied in nature and involves hands-on training for the patients and physicians to enhance medical consultations. Arnold’s most recent research focuses not only on the physician’s need for advanced medical communication training, but also communication skills training for patients in the medical consultation. Two of her recent medical communication papers were published in the journals Health Education and Behavior, and Patient Education and Counseling. The research currently in progress is to construct advanced medical communication skills workshops in clinical settings for both physicians and patients, along with a quantitative measurement for satisfaction and other health outcomes involving the medical consultation.
