Biography

Dr. Chu obtained his PhD in Medical Virology from the National University of Singapore NUS. Dr Chu was awarded the prestigious Singapore Millennium Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2006. Subsequently, Dr. Chu continued his postdoctoral training at the Harvard Medical School where he developed a novel high throughput antiviral drugs screening platform for dengue virus. In 2007, Dr. Chu received the distinguished Lee Kuan Yew fellowship and the America Society of Microbiology Scientific Achievement Award ICAAC and the Young Investigator Award in the year 2008. Dr. Chu is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. The research laboratory of Dr. Chu is actively engaged in the application of genomewide gene silencing technology, molecular virology, bioimaging and proteomics techniques to study the interaction between host factors and viral components during virus replication, focusing especially on Dengue virus Enteroviruses and Chikugunya virus. By understanding the replication processes of these pathogenic viruses Dr. Chu hopes to develop effective antiviral strategies against these viruses. Since 2001 Dr. Chu has published over 30 international peerreviewed scientific publications book chapters and over 80 conference papers. A number of these scientific papers are published in prestigious journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences PNAS, Journal of Biological Chemistry, JBC and Journal of Virology. Dr. Chu is currently serving as the associate editor and reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed journals in area of medical virology and antiviral strategies. Two US patents have also been generated from his current research.
