Professor Csilla GERGELY has received her PhD from Szeged University Hungary in 1997. Currently she is working as biophysicist in Montpellier 2 University in France. She has successfully completed her administrative responsibilities as head of the Bionanophotonics team and coordinator of several national and international interdisciplinary collaborative projects. She is reviewer of several reputed journals like Eur J Biomed Opt  Biomacromolecules Eur Biophys, J Langmuir Biosensors and Bioelectronics Colloids and Interface Sciences J Biomed Materials Res and J Biomedical Devices. She has authored 52 research articles and book chapters 42 conference proceedings and 2 patents. She was awarded as best young scientist from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and holds the Robert Frank Award attributed by the International Association for Dental Research.

Research Interest

The actual research interest of Prof. Gergely lies mainly in bionanophotonics. Her team develops adhesion peptides for selective biofunctionalization of photonic crystals for elaboration of semiconductors based biosensors for molecular detection. They are also developing various microscopic techniques (near-probe and multiphoton microscopy) for functional imaging on follow-up-therapy of cancerous cells. Molecular biophysics is employed to study interactions, adhesion and protein dynamics in biological self-assemblies like amelogenin nanospheres, microtubules, casein micelles. Her expertise lies also in surface modification of biomaterials by means of functionalized polyelectrolyte multilayers for biocompatibility and osteointegration.
