Daniel Morris earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University in 1994, and his PhD from the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University in 2001 on the topic of Gauge Freedoms in 3D Computer Vision. Dr. Morris has worked at a number of corporate research labs developing vision algorithms for autonomous platforms including water-surface vehicles and unmanned ground vehicles. In 2013 he joined the faculty as an associate professor the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of Michigan State University. His publications are in the areas of 3D uncertainty modeling for computer vision, articulated object tracking, surface mesh building, autonomous riverine navigation, optical stabilization, and LIDAR-based people and vehicle detection and tracking.

Research Interest

3D object surface estimation from video and range sensors, 3D target tracking using adaptive kinematic and measurement models, and detection-level sensor fusion for object categorization.
