Biography

Dr. Valentine holds a degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Tennessee and served as a Clinical Supervisor and Associate Director of the Hearing and speech Center for almost 14 years. Currently he is an Associative Professor in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Montevallo. Although Dr. Valentine has taught several classes in the department, his major classes include stuttering disorders, motor speech disorders, and speech science. Previous to becoming a speech-language pathologist, Dr. Valentine taught English as a second language, English composition, and beginning literature in Kansas, Indiana and Tennessee, as well as in Morocco and Saudi Arabia. Dr. Valentine’s recent area of research has been in the efficacy of telepractice and stuttering intervention. He is currently exploring the use of telepractice with patients with motor speech disorders (e.g., flaccid dysarthria). In addition, over the last two years Dr. Valentine has conducted research in the acquisition of pop-cultural idioms (especially in Hip-Hop music) in college-age students.
